Setting up your new GlowFlock

Congratulations on your new GlowFlocks! The following instructions will help you get off and running with your GlowFlock ecosystem.

What’s in the Box

Each GlowFlock light has a built in controller. We've also included one USB-C cable and one USB-C power adapter per light.

Powering Your GlowFlock

To power on your GlowFlock lights, simply plug them into the wall using the included cable and power adapter.

Your GlowFlock lights can be powered via USB-C from any source capable of delivering 2.0A of power. This includes powerbanks or other off-grid power solutions. This being said, bear in mind that not all power sources and cables are created equal. If your USB adapter or USB battery isn't capable of delivering 2.0A of power, or if your cable can't carry that much power, your lights may freeze or shut off. If you experience this kind of strange behavior, please test your lights with the included power adapter and cable. If your lights work properly with the included power equipment then your issues were being caused by the other power equipment that was incapable of delivering the necessary amount power.

How Flocks Work

GlowFlock lights are at their best when you’ve created a Flock. So how do they work?

Put simply, a Flock is created any time one GlowFlock light is following another.

  • At launch, the Flock Leader is the unit that decides (1) what pattern the Flock is playing, and (2) how bright the Flock is.

  • Flock Members are units that are following the Flock Leader.

Flocks persist even after being power cycled. Simply power all your units back on and wait a few seconds for your Flock Members to reconnect to the Flock Leader. Bear in mind that prior to connecting to the leader, your Flock Members may play the pattern they were set to prior to joining the Flock. This is normal behavior and will resolve as soon as they find their Flock Leader.

Selecting a Pattern

Your GlowFlocks come with pre-loaded patterns to get you started. To cycle through patterns, single press the up or down arrow on your GlowFlock controller.

Note that if your unit is in a Flock, but not the Flock Leader, changing the pattern on your unit will automatically cause it to leave the Flock. If your unit is the Flock Leader, this will cause all other lights that are following you to change their patterns as well.

Adjusting Brightness

In addition to being able to control what pattern your light or Flock is playing, you can also adjust the brightness of your light and of any lights following your unit.

To adjust the brightness of your Flock, press and hold the up or down arrow. The lights will begin to change brightness, and will continue to do so for as long as you depress the button.

To turn your lights off completely, hold the down arrow until lights turn off. Your light and/or Flock is now in standby. Please note that turning off the lights will not completely turn your GlowFlock lights off. If you need to completely turn your GlowFlock devices off, you’ll need to disconnect them from their power source.

Creating and/or Joining a Flock

A Flock is created by having one (or more) GlowFlock lights follow another GlowFlock light. Flocks can have as many Members as you want, but only one Leader. To create a leader, simply turn one of your lights on and select a pattern.

Then, press the center button on another light (a Flock Member or follower) to join the Flock. If the member light is not displaying a synchronized pattern with the Flock Leader, press the center button again. Continue to press the center button until you have joined the desired Flock and your lights are synchronized with your Flock Leader. Your GlowFlock lights can join any other Flock leaders within range.

Once a light is following your Flock Leader, you will be able to control all the lights in your Flock from the Flock Leader light. Changing patterns and raising or lowering your light brightness on the Leader will be reflected in all the lights that you’ve told to follow that Leader.

Please note that GlowFlock lights cannot follow Members of other Flocks, nor can they follow a light that is powered off or at zero brightness.

Recommended Flock Creation Process

While not required, the easiest way to create your own Flock is using the following process:

  1. Power on your Flock Leader, and select your pattern and brightness.

  2. Power on the next light in your Flock, and press the center button. Assuming there aren’t other GlowFlock units in the vicinity, your GlowFlock will now be following your Flock Leader.

  3. Repeat step two until all your lights have joined your desired Flock.
